Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast in 2005 leaving my neighboorhood filled with 25' of murky bayou water. This is the summarization of my treasures that survived...After my Grandparents died I purchased the contents of their house. After going through the many items I found three prayer books from the 1800s these were given to my Great-grandfather with hand written notes including ...one awarded for poilteness in the second grade, and the others of the marriages that occured at that time. I also have numerous postcards from 1931, which have a rather unique background. The story behind these is that my Great-Grandfather and Great-Grandmother left the house one day to run errands, while out they decided to drive west, buying clothes as they traveled...sending the mentioned postcard along the way...that is the story I grew up hearing!!! I also have a newspaper from 1912 when the Titanic sank, and another newspaper from 1911, and the most unique one was the front page of a paper with an article recounting the events of the HUrricane of 1909 which slammed Biloxi. Until Hurricane Camille, the Hurricane of 1909 held the title of the worst plight on the Coast. How ironic that this paper survived a Hurricane of it's own!!! I would love to tell you a more in depth account of each of the artifacts and their own stories!
